A great start to the Rec Centre Hockey Challenge in Owen Sound.
Over 13 thousand dollars was raised at Friday night’s auction of game tickets and sports memorabilia.
The actual fundraising hockey game is tonight at 7 PM at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
There will be 40 players on the ice — made up of a dozen MP’s and local celebrities.
Former NHL player and Attack Co-owner Paul MacDermid will be joined by another former NHL player Brad May on the ice.
MacDermid played for four teams during 14 seasons in the NHL while May played 18 seasons with 7 NHL teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The has been organized in part by Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller.
He says the community has come together to make the game a big part of the final stage of local fundraising for the Regional Recreation Centre.
Sonya Mount — the Co Chair of the Rec Centre Fundraising Committee — says they also have a number of high school and minor hockey players in the game.
The opening puck drop will feature Olympian Gayle Graham and Paralympian Jason Crone — both from Owen Sound.
Tickets for the game are 10 dollars for adults and 5 dollars for youth 18 and under.
There is also an Air Canada Fly Anywhere Raffle and tickets are 10 dollars each.
There is also a raffle for an autographed Curtis Sanford goalie mask and tickets are two dollars each.
