Dare to be a kid again.
That’s the challenge issued by the Hanover and District Big Brothers and Sisters agency.
The organization hosted a picnic Saturday at the Hanover Park for all of its staff, volunteers and little brothers and sisters.
Executive Director Chantal La Duke notes September is Big Brother and Sister month — so they wanted to recognize it with a picnic.
As part of the event — the first ever Bike for Kids Sake was held as riders cycled from Port Elgin to Hanover.
La Duke invites anyone interested in becoming a Big Brother or Sister to call the agency.
There are currently 75 volunteers in over 22 communities serving 108 children.
But La Duke says they need more volunteers because there are still 37 ‘Little’s’
waiting for a Big Brother or Sister.
She notes sometimes kids wait two years for a Big Brother or Sister.
It was also at this time last year when the Hanover and District Big Brothers and Sisters announced they may have to close their doors.
But the community heard the cry for help and raised enough money to keep the agency in operation.
