Finally, some relief for drivers on the east side of Owen Sound.
The City has re-opened the 6th Street East hill to traffic.
It has been closed for about eight weeks for construction and that has forced a lot of traffic onto 8th Street East.
Originally the work was suppose to be done in five weeks, but Owen Sound City Engineering Service Manager Chris Webb tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they ran into unforeseen problems.
A final coat of asphalt will not be done until the Spring, to allow the roadway to settle.
Meanwhile, the bottle-neck at 10th Street East and 9th Avenue East is getting even tighter.
The city is closing the section of 10th Street East — going east of 9th avenue to all thru-traffic — except local traffic.
The closure will allow for major underground servicing to be upgraded and it will remain in effect for four weeks.
It’s all part of the reconstruction of that intersection where Highways 6, 10, 21 and 26 meet.
Webb says all the construction on 10th Street East should be done by December 1st.
