The state of emergency imposed in Goderich shortly after last month’s tornado remains in effect.
Council met on Friday morning and decided to maintain the order until the end of September partly because of liability issues involving those working on the town’s recovery effort.
Mayor Deb Shewfelt also met with the Reeves of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and Central Huron whose municipalities saw some major damage from the twister.
Many of the issues in ACW and Central Huron surround flattened crops and destroyed woodlots.
Shewfelt earlier had talked to members of the religious organization Samaritan’s Purse who are leaving town this weekend.
The group had been helping individual property owners who were either uninsured or under-insured.
They’ve handed over their operation to the Mennonite Disaster Service and the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee.
Shewfelt says all post-tornado activity in Goderich has moved into what he calls “the people stage” and that it makes sense to keep the state of emergency in-tact for now.
