A home in Oliphant has been destroyed by a fire, touched off by a lightning strike.
South Bruce Peninsula Fire Chief Dan Robinson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, they were called about 12:11 AM on Monday and were on scene until 4:30 AM battling the flames.
Firefighters from both Sauble Beach and Wiarton responded to the call.
Robinson says the single family home was completely destroyed and damage is pegged at 300 thousand dollars.
The home is owned by Pete MacKenzie, and the family of three got out safely.
Robinson says often lightning will hit a home and knock out computers or TV’s — but in this case it started a fire on the roof of the house.
