The Davidson Centre gym, warm viewing area and dressing room project will be completed by October 31st.
That from the project architect Jim Strassman, who addressed Kincardine councillors recently.
Strassman says the project will be done “come hell or high water” in time for Kincardine to take advantage of the senior level of governments funding.
The project was supposed to have been completed earlier this year but an extension was granted to October 31st and councillors are getting antsy as that date approaches.
Strassman says they ran into time problems with late delivery of steel, of the pre-cast concrete and windows.
He says it ultimately created a moisture problem in the cement which needs to be addressed before the finishing touches can be put on the floor in the facility.
Strassman says they will be testing moisture readings on Monday and Tuesday and they expect to get the go-ahead to complete the work.
Meanwhile, Councillor Randy Roppel is upset with the way the whole project was handled.
He says there was a complete lack of communication and he hopes council has learned its lesson that the “cheapest” quote on a project is not always the best one.
Roppel says he’s embarrassed by it all.
