Bruce County Plowing Match big success
Labour Day Monday turned into a true celebration of the work and lifestyle on the farm as organizers estimate more than 400 people visited Bruce County Plowing Match near Tara. The Bruce County Plowmen’s Association adjusted the date for this years plowing match moving to the Labour Day Holiday in order to help at this year’s Canadian Plowing Match near Owen Sound.
Bruce County Queen of the Furrow Janette Hammell said “It was great to see so many children at the plowing match today who could visit with their Mom or Dad. Other years, the parents would be working and not able to attend”.
Janette is getting ready to travel to Prescott Russell to compete at the Ontario Queen of the Furrow Contest, part of this year’s International Plowing Match. Bruce County will be well represented having Janette, along with the Ontario Queen of the Furrow Tammy Fischer from Teeswater and Ontario Plowmen’s Association President Bob Hammell from Belmore on site helping with the event.
The Queen of the Furrow Contest in Bruce County saw the crown go back to the Teeswater area with Alicia Scott. Amy Ribey of Paisley was the 1st Runner up and also had the highest plowing score.
Secretary John Gillespie said more than 60 Tractor competitors were on site, with 10 Horse Teams Plowing at the annual event, an increase from recent events. The Farm of Ron and Janice Hammell along Bruce County Road 10 proved to be the ideal location to have a large number of plowers compete, along with a display area for equipment dealers and local businesses.

Prizes will be handed out in conjunction with the Plowmen’s Association Annual Meeting Saturday October 22nd at the Tara Legion.
