A close call for a Walkerton area family.
Roger Dunning was about to leave his property on concession 10 in the former Greenock township around 10:30 AM on Monday.
But he heard the fire alarm in his house and got his wife and pets out safely.
Their daughter was not home at the time.
Firefighters from Walkerton, Elmwood, Paisley and Teeswater all responded to the blaze — but they were not able to save the home.
The cause of the fire is unknown.

Please add that we personally wish to thank and commend the Walkerton, Paisley, Elmwood and Teeswater fire departments for their quick response times as we do live in the county and after the call it was approximately 15 to 20 minutes and they were on sight and were applying water within 30 seconds of their arrival.
Their efficiency was commendable and their dedication to their duties was exemplary.
Please extend our many thanks to theses ladies and gentlemen for their professionalism and dedication to duties and their willingness to serve our comunities and county.
I further wish to thank the ladies of our rural comunity for their devotion and assistance as they provided sandwiches and coffee for these courageous individuals, and gave my wife and daughters a safe place to stay during the blaze.
