The Executive Director of the Sierra Club of Canada wants Bruce County to re-consider its moratorium on wind turbine development.
John Bennett of Ottawa visited county councillors on Thursday to make his case saying there is no scientific proof that people get sick from turbines.
Bennett says he won’t argue that people are ill but suggests it may be from other things rather than the placement of wind turbines.
He says people have been significantly mis-led on turbines causing sickness, that turbines are inefficient and that municipalities don’t have a say in where turbines can be located.
Bennett says he doesn’t want nuclear power plants or coal plants but he had no say on where they would be located.
Why should there be any say on where wind turbines are located is his question.
Meanwhile, Bruce County Warden Mike Smith just couldn’t buy into the fact that Bennett was denying that sickness of people was caused by wind turbines.
He says it adds nothing to the debate.
Arran Elderslie Mayor Paul Eagleson has no problem if wind turbines are properly placed but he argues his municipality had no choice, under the Green Energy Act, where the turbines were placed and that’s his concern.
Warden Smith says there will be no consideration of rescinding their motion for a moratorium on turbine development.
