As kids prepare to go back to school — the Transportation Consortium of Grey-Bruce is busy planning bus routes to get them there safely.
General Manger Steve Lustig says the Transportation Consortium co-ordinates bus service for the three school boards within Grey and Bruce counties.
Lustig says they’ve been hard at work since July, adapting routes to accommodate new students in their database.
He notes they also take into account students who have graduated or moved away, and who won’t require bus service in September.
Lustig tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have eight school bus operators that service 340 routes.
Those routes take close to 15 thousand kids to and from school, travelling almost the circumference of the earth every day.
That works out to an annual cost of 15 million dollars just for Grey and Bruce — or roughly one thousand dollars per student.
He adds parents can make the consortium’s job easier by ensuring their address and contact information is up to date and matches what the school has on file.
