47 dogs have been seized from a home on Old Red Bay Road near Oliphant, and neighbours are glad something has finally been done.
Brenda Bamford has put up with howling dogs next to her home for years, and counted 24 of them on the back porch several months ago.
She was shocked to learn about the actual number of dogs in the home, and Bamford tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the smell in the house was unbelievable.
Bamford says the Ontario SPCA has done nothing over the years despite numerous complaints from the neighbours about the barking and smell coming from the property.
On the weekend, two dogs were left out on the porch in the hot sun with no food or water and by Sunday, Bamford was concerned that the woman who lives there, may have died in the house.
Police and bylaw enforcement officers from South Bruce Peninsula came to the home and pounded on the door but got no answer.
Concerned about the woman’s condition, police went in and found 47 dogs and Bamford says the smell inside the house was horrendous.
According to the neighbour, several OPP officers said the house should be condemned.
The dogs were removed and taken to a pet hospital where they are in quarantine.
Bruce Peninsula OPP and the town bylaw enforcement officer met Tuesday and the OPP are now taking the lead on the investigation.
The woman who lives at the home returned Monday but no charges have been laid by police.
