A new 150 thousand dollar astronomical observatory at the Outdoor Education Centre near Oliphant is now up and running.
Bluewater Astronomical Society Vice President John Hlynialuk says they have been using the facility for a few weeks, although some minor finishing touches are still being done on the building.
The observatory was paid with private funding.
Hlynialuk says a major donation came from E.S. Fox Construction company covered about half of the cost of the project, while the rest of the money was raised by the Astronomical society.
It has a moveable roof and the Observatory will be used both by the General Public, and by students with the Bluewater board.
The observatory features several telescopes including one large telescope – donated by the University of Guelph.
30 to 50 people can use the facility at any one time, but you must contact the Bluewater Astronomical society ahead of time.
Hlynialuk says a grand opening for the astronomical observatory near Oliphant is planned for September 17th.
