Owen Sound Mayor Deb Haswell has a wish list, for the annual AMO convention in London.
The three day Association of Municipalities of Ontario convention is now underway — and provides municipalities with a chance to get some face time with provincial ministers and the Premier.
Haswell has two key meetings with the Minister of International Trade and Investment Sandra Pupatello on Monday and with Labour Minister Charlie Sousa on Tuesday.
The Owen Sound Mayor wants to talk with Pupatello about the PPG plant.
She is hoping the province can help the city find a tenant for the now vacant plant.
Although there has been luke-warm interest in the facility, Haswell says they need a factory operating there or the city loses out on over 200 thousand dollars a year in property taxes.
Meanwhile, Mayor Haswell wants to talk with the Minister of Labour about the escalating costs of emergency services.
She says Fort Frances just settled with firefighters, giving them a 16 per cent pay boost, something Owen Sound cannot afford.
Haswell says the current arbitration process has a glitch in it, and it needs to be reviewed and overhauled.
She points out what Toronto police make, isn’t necessarily what and Owen Sound officer should make.
