A projected 14 per cent increase in OPP costing is causing Brockton officials some concern.
The municipality is petitioning the province to allow Brockton to take part in contract negotiation with its OPP force.
Mayor David Inglis tells Bayshore Broadcasting News if they pay for the service — they should also have some say in the negotiations.
Inglis calls the projected hike unacceptable — he notes the average cost of living increase over the past 18 years is less than 2 per cent.
Inglis adds if the 14 per cent wage hike goes through — Brockton may have to look at service costs and even layoffs to meet its budget.
Inglis points this has nothing to do with the level of service — he is happy with the work of South Bruce OPP.
But he doesn’t think taxpayers should be burdened with such a huge OPP pay raise.
