2011 is shaping up to be a banner year for construction in Brockton.
In the first six months of the year — Brockton issued building permits with a construction value of 11.4 million dollars.
That is up from 7 million for the same period last year.
Mayor Dave Inglis notes a large chunk of the activity is taking place in the commercial sector — which boasted 4.8 million dollars in new growth.
This includes the new Walkerton OPP office.
2.9 million dollars was spent on new residential and 693 thousand went towards residential renovations.
1.7 million dollars worth of building activity took place in the agriculture sector almost doubling last years numbers.
Inglis calls this great news for the agriculture sector as a whole.
Chief Building Official Terry Tuck says the 11.4 million dollars does not include the Best Western hotel — which will count towards the stats in the second half of the year.
