The three small docks near the main Howdenvale dock are about to disappear starting Monday.
Fisheries and Oceans is planning to do some maintenance on the Howdenvale Dock and will be removing three other structures which are in an unsafe condition and have not been leased by the town since 1999.
South Bruce Peninsula council received a request from Fisheries and Oceans to waive tipping fees for the disposal of the three docks — mainly old wood and a few tires.
Councillor Jay Kirkland presented a motion to turn down the request since any contractor hired by the federal agency will already have built in a price for disposal of the waste.
Council agreed and the motion passed.
Meanwhile, Councillor Paul McKenzie says he’s sorry to see the old docks go, despite their condition.
McKenzie says a lot of people around Howdenvale consider the docks as part of their heritage and once their out of the water, they’ll never be back.
