When an item reaches town council, the preferred option recommended is usually approved.
In the choice of what consultant to choose to head-hunt for a new CAO, such was not the case.
In a recorded vote on Wednesday night — all eight councillors opted for Nigel Bellchamber of Bellchamber & Associates to do the job.
Mayor Larry Kraemer was the lone dissenting vote, choosing instead to go with the recommendation of the committee — The Performance Group.
Kraemer says he’s at a loss as to why the vote went that way but he accepts it.
The Performance Group quoted a rate of 995 dollars a day plus expenses.
Kraemer says the Bellchamber rate is a bit more but no figure was quoted.
Next a special meeting of council will be held with Nigel Bellchamber to discuss the approach to be taken in the hunt for a new CAO.
According to a website profile of Bellchamber, he has held a variety of municipal offices, rural and urban, including Clerk, Treasurer, Commissioner of Finance and Administration, and Chief Administrative Officer.
