In response to a story aired on Bayshore Broadcasting News about concerns raised around the 24 Weeks of summer at Sauble Beach — the Mayor has issued a news release.
John Close says in the release, that South Bruce Peninsula Council wishes to express its’ support of community events and festivals.
He says it is these events which foster a sense of community pride and identity.
Close says a Memorandum of Understanding between the Town and the Sauble Chamber of Commerce set forth guidelines for the provision of the 24 Weeks of Summer events and the Winterfest event at Sauble Beach.
The town recently issued a letter to the Chamber of Commerce president reminding the Chamber of their obligations under the Memorandum and the Town by-laws.
Close says the Town has received word from the Chamber that they plan to comply with Town by-laws and policies.
Close says the Town expects full cooperation from the Chamber in this regard.
He adds it is hoped that the remainder of the summer will be full of exciting events for everyone to enjoy.

Bylaw Enforcement Officer Carol Hopkins reported to a Committee of the Whole meeting on August 2nd that the special events with regard to the 24 Weeks of Summer were not under control.
According to minutes from the meeting there have been large problems including early blocking of the street, people sleeping in RV’s and garbage.
Councillor Marilyn Bowman says the town gave the Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce money to take care of these issues and it’s not being done.
At that time she suggested the then upcoming Sandfest celebration be cancelled however that event did go this past weekend.
