As successful as some believe the 24 Weeks of Summer Celebration in Sauble Beach is, one South Bruce Peninsula Councillor is not so sure.
Bylaw Enforcement Officer Carol Hopkins reported to a Committee of the Whole meeting on August 2nd that the special events with regard to the 24 Weeks of summer were not under control.
According to minutes from the meeting there have been large problems including early blocking of the street, sleeping in RV’s and garbage.
Councillor Marilyn Bowman says the town gave the Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce money to take care of these issues and it’s not being done.
At that time she suggested the then upcoming Sandfest celebration be cancelled however that event did go this past weekend.
Bowman says though the Chamber now has a letter from the town covering the rest of the season saying events will be cancelled if they can’t be controlled.
Bowman wants further discussion on the town’s special events policy and direction which will happen in the future.
The 24 weeks of Summer has several more events scheduled for Sauble Beach before the summer is out.
