The above-ground fuel tanks at the Kincardine Airport are in operation but Kincardine Councillor Ron Coristine is questioning the safety of the tanks.
Coristine says he doesn’t want to see a tragic accident happen at the airport because the fuel wasn’t being handled properly.
Coristine fears there may have been too much bureaucracy in the way of having the recent construction project done properly.
He points out a couple of issues that he knows about.
First he says the hoses that are installed on the tanks had teflon tape used on them.
Coristine says teflon tape doesn’t mix well with fuel but the tape was used nevertheless.
Also the concrete that the tanks are on should measure 14 inches above the ground.
He says that regulation hasn’t been met.
Meanwhile, airport manager Blake Evans says every safety standard has been met and the work is now being cleaned up such as aesthetics around the tanks.
The above-ground tanks replace those that were underground at the airport at a cost of over 145 thousand dollars..
The two tanks are a 15 thousand litre Avgas tank and a 10 thousand litre jet fuel tank.
