An education fund has been developed in memory of the late Chippewas of Nawash Chief Ralph Akiwenzie.
It’s a partnership between the Saugeen Ojibway Nation and Bruce Power in Tiverton.
Bruce Power spokesperson John Peevers announced on Monday they’re donating a four-year total funding commitment of 100 thousand dollars towards the scholarship.
Peevers says it was no-brainer as the late Chief had such a strong affinity for education.
The Ralph Akiwenzie Memorial Scholarship fund goes to students at Saugeen First Nations and Cape Croker.
Peevers says the nuclear operator’s commitment will be combined with 35 thousand dollars in proceeds from the annual Nawash golf tournament.
Peevers says both the SON and Bruce Power will look for additional money to grow the fund.
