Communities across our region are welcoming home our troops from Afghanistan.
You may have noticed the yellow bows that are on display in homes and buildings across Grey and Bruce Counties.
The Owen Sound Legion is also planning a celebration on September 10th to show our appreciation to our soldiers, veterans and their families.
It’s called Operation Gratitude.
Kira Tobin is the Separation and Reunion Co-ordinator at the Meaford Military Family Resource Centre.
She says the support for both soldiers and their families is very important.
Tobin says it can be a trying time for a military spouse when their loved one is overseas — and that’s where she comes in and offers support.
The Family Resource Centre can offer information, child care, social activities and even connect them to their loved ones through video conferencing.
Tobin notes it can also be a difficult time when soldiers return and they have to integrate back into family life.
The Family Resource Centre also offers support when soldiers return.
Quota International and different Chambers of Commerce are also selling yellow bows if you want to ‘Paint the Town Yellow’ to support the troops.
