Although there was a suggestion of it, the Southampton Residents Association is looking for no change in the animal by-law as it pertains to beaches in the area.
At a recent meeting — it was decided not to try to have the dog bylaw changed shortening the time dogs are banned from the beach.
Right now dogs are not allowed from May 1st to September 30th.
There was a suggestion to shorten that from Canada Day to Labour Day but the issue was defeated.
However President Ken Robertson says they will approach the town to see if dogs on a short leash can be allowed to walk on the concrete boardwalk near the beaches.
In addition they will further investigate setting up a dog beach where the animals would be allowed in the water.
It’s been suggested that such a beach could be developed to the northwest of the big flag at the foot of High Street in Southampton.
That issue will also be explored by the association.
