The economy is both good and bad news for the Chi-Cheemaun.
Owen Sound Transportation Company General Manager Susan Schrempf says ridership is down, but not as dramatically as feared.
With the stumbling U.S. economy, a high Canadian dollar and high gas prices — the company was worried ridership on the Ferry from Tobermory to South Baymouth would tumble.
However, Schrempf tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they are only down 7.29 per cent from a year ago.
One reason the Big Canoe is maintaining high ridership she says, is a lot of people from the Toronto area are discovering the Bruce Peninsula and what it has to offer.
Schrempf says prices are up two per cent this year but they also cut prices for smaller vehicles, and now take 100 per cent reservations instead of first come first served on the ferry.
