To help mark their 25th anniversary — the Alzheimer Society Grey-Bruce is holding a photo memories contest.
The contest is open to all Grey-Bruce residents, with the exception of professional photographers.
Community Development Coordinator Bill Twaddle says they chose a photo contest because photo memories can often be a source of comfort for people with alzheimers and other forms of dementia.
He says the key criteria for the contest is that all photos entered must tell the story of a significant memory for the photographer.
A maximum 50 word written description explaining why the photo is meaningful must be included with each submission.
Twaddle says he expects a wide variety of entries and hopes it will be a fun challenge for the judges to pick a winner.
80 per cent of the judging criteria is based on photographic excellence, and 20 per cent on the written description.
All entries must be in 8×10 form — either black and white or color, a digital print — and cannot be photoshopped.
The winning photos will be unveiled at the 25th anniversary “Weekend for Memories” event on Saturday, October 1st at Grey Roots Musuem and Archives.
Parsons Foto Source is Owen Sound is providing gift certificates as prizes — 100 dollars for first, 75 for second 50 for third and a 75 dollar popular choice award.
All photos must be submitted to the Alzheimer Society Grey-Bruce office by Friday, September 16th.
