With another holiday weekend upon us OPP have a reminder that they’re on the lookout for driving, boating and alcohol-related offences.
Huron OPP Constable Leanne Wilhelm says one of the things police will target this weekend is stop sign-controlled intersections.
Police find many collisions at rural intersections are caused by motorists who don’t come to a complete stop at stop signs and keep going without checking whether another vehicle is coming.
OPP will also be on the water all across our area.
Wilhelm tells us they’ll be enforcing regulations on safety devices you must have in your boat.
A major thing OPP will focus on is whether all people on board boats are wearing life-jackets.
She reminds us OPP will maintain a visible presence everywhere this weekend.
Of the more than nine thousand charges laid across the province by OPP during the last Civic Holiday weekend — 58 hundred were for speeding and racing.
Five people were killed in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads and highways on the 2010 Civic Holiday weekend.
