Brockton is petitioning the federal and provincial governments for the mandatory destruction of buildings that have been used as grow ops or crystal meth labs.
The municipality also wants the governments to cover the cost of demolition.
Currently municipalities are stuck with the bill, and Mayor Dave Inglis calls this unfair.
He says the monies collected from the drug busts could be used to pay for the demolition.
Inglis says these grow op and meth buildings and homes are a public safety hazard — whether it be due to mould or gases.
Unfortunately, Inglis notes grow operations are becoming all too common in the region.
