You will notice more RIDE programs in the Walkerton area this summer.
That is because Brockton provided a 94 hundred dollar loan to the Police Services Board to finance more RIDE programs in July and August.
The Chair of the Police Board, Charlie Reidl, says they needed the money now because they couldn’t wait for a grant from the province.
That is expected to arrive later this year, so Reidl says the Police Board will pay back the money to the town.
Reidl — who is a retired police officer — says summer are ideal times for RIDE programs because their population swells.
Reidl adds some of the most successful RIDE programs are the ones located off the beaten path on sideroads — especially in Brant Township.
The 94 hundred dollar loan will cover the officers overtime expense, as the program is not part of their regular work day schedule.
