The Historic Paisley Inn is getting a new lease on life.
Owner Burke Maidlow says after four and a half years of fighting to get a building permit, he has finally received approval to do some structural work on the nearly 150 year old building.
A previous building inspector wanted parts of the Inn torn down, but a new inspector and outside engineer have decided the building can be saved — although a lot of work needs to be done.
The Paisley Inn needs structural upgrades which Maidlow hopes to have completed by December.
That involves strengthening the roof and rebuilding the upper wall on the west wing.
In it’s hay-day — it was one of the finest hotels in the area.
In 1957 it was the first bar to receive a liquor licence north of Toronto, and it was a major facility during the building of the Bruce nuclear plants.
Maidlow tells Bayshore Broadcasting News his goal is to breath new life into the Inn, and possibly turn it into a “Roots Music centre” for Ontario.
Meanwhile, the Paisley Inn remains up for sale for 295 thousand dollars and Maidlow says he would sell it to the right buyer.
