The 16th annual Jeff Preston golf tournament is set to go at the Saugeen Golf Club in Saugeen Shores.
Spokesperson Tim Eaton says the actual tournament is on Friday.
However, the event kicks off with a wine and cheese and silent auction at the Saugeen clubhouse at 7 PM tonight.
Eaton says everyone is invited out to the club on Thursday for the free event.
The golf tournament began at the request of Jeff Preston, who approached the Port Elgin Rotary Club, looking for a way to raise money for muscular dystrophy research.
Preston — who is well known in the community — suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which results in muscle degeneration with difficulty in walking and breathing.
Eaton says over the course of the 16 years of the tourney — a million dollars has been raised through tournament proceeds and subsequent grants researchers were able to get because of the seed money they received from the event.
A first this year will be prizes for the best all-female team during the 18-hole scramble at the golf course.
Eaton says the event goes, rain or shine and features a celebrity golfer with each foursome.
Celebrities come from the sporting world, along with civic dignitaries and broadcasting personnel.
