Plans are already in the works for International Women’s day this Fall.
The Canadian Federation of University Women-Southport has big plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day this October.
CFUW President Cheryl Kryzaniwsky has approached Saugeen Shores council looking for financial help so that the group can host a World Cafe at the former Town Hall in Southampton.
Kryzaniwsky says on October 15th, her group is hoping to bring people together to talk about what she calls an inclusive community where women are full partners.
She says there are no glaring problems in Saugeen Shores that she’s aware of but perhaps others have stories or ideas on how to improve the environment for women in the municipality.
Kryzaniwsky says the theme, “Are We There Yet?” fits into the goal of their meeting and they’re inviting everyone of all age groups to participate.
She says they want to do a better job making sure women are fully integrated in their respective communities.
She points to town council which she says is a hard-working respected group but notes there is only one woman in the group.
CFUW was asking council for 15 hundred dollars to cover costs of their meeting however, councillors put off their decision saying it’s against policy to give money but they may be able to help out with the rental fees of the Town Hall.
