A warning from Owen Sound Police about a Property Rental Scam.
Three people have complained about fraudulently advertised rental properties in the city.
Police Service say the fraudsters advertise property for rent on the internet, and often get random property addresses through MLS listings on the web.
Owen Sound police say the fraudsters ask the prospective renter to send first and last month rent payment via a wired fund transfer, with a promise of key to the property to be courier back — upon receiving the funds.
The prospective renter loses their money with no rental property obtained.
Luckily, the three renters who complained recently did not lose any money.
Police advise residents to very cautious when purchasing or renting items over the internet.
Never wire or mail funds to an unknown source prior to receiving the goods or services.
