There will be a new warden of Bruce County next year.
Saugeen Shores Mayor and current Warden Mike Smith announced he will not seek a third term.
Smith says he’s proud of his accomplishments during his two stints as Warden…and its time to pass the torch.
He points to the Grey Bruce Meth Watch Program as a big success, as well as a number of infrastructure projects across the county.
For the future — Smith says they need some definitive answers from the province regarding long term care in rural settings.
He adds there is no shortage of Bruce County Councillors who could do a great job filling the position.
So far, only Brockton Mayor David Inglis has announced his intentions to run for warden this December.
Inglis says council will also explore the possibility of changing the warden term of office from two years to one.
He explains two years is a big commitment and a lot of work, and feels it’s more fair to members of the municipality to hold the position for one year.
