The Owen Sound Golf and Country Club is being called a heritage institution.
The President of the Board, Bob Nicol, hopes the local community rallies behind the golf course that is now closed because of financial woes.
Nicol compares the impact of 91 year old golf club to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery and the OHL champion Owen Sound Attack.
He believes these businesses are of great value to the region.
Member Ross Weber is from Waterloo — and he says he chooses to be a member at Owen Sound Golf and Country because of its beauty.
Weber is among the majority of members who want to see an investor purchase the club and re-open it as a golf course soon.
But time is of the essence — members heard at Wednesday night’s meetings that the greens would get in very poor shape if unkept for 7 to 14 days.
Nicol estimates it would cost about five million dollars to build this Stanley Thompson designed golf course from scratch.
But some believe the club could be purchased for two and a half to three million dollars.
The 91 year old club owes the Bank of Montreal 1.1 million dollars — and the club faces receivership as early as Thursday.
