As Bluewater District School Board trustees wrestled with the 2011-12 budget recently — an interesting fact was presented by board treasurer Brenda Booth.
As strapped as the board is, the individual bank accounts of every school in the system, through fundraising, are very healthy.
Booth says in total around two-million-dollars is in the accounts.
She says the lowest account in the elementary system is 64 hundred dollars and the lowest in the secondary system is 56 thousand dollars.
Booth points out that some of the money could be earmarked for school trips or playground equipment for example.
However she also says some of the money has been sitting in accounts for four years, untouched.
For a split second, one trustee suggested maybe the board could put the money to better use.
That idea was discarded since the money belongs to the school and the students and parents who have donated to the accounts.
Booth says they will be analyzing the accounts in the future to see if there are plans for the money particularly the cash that appears to have been frozen for several years.
