The upgrades to the Hanover Water Treatment Plant are almost done.
Hanover’s Water Treatment Plant will soon switch over to a new Hydrogen Peroxide and Ultraviolet disinfection system.
The 3.6 million dollars water treatment plant upgrade and expansion project is nearing completion.
Along with newer technology and equipment — the project also involves bringing Deep Well Number 1 back on line.
In 2003 — the well was declared GUDI — ground water under direct influence — and its capacity was greatly reduced.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says the well will help increase the town’s water capacity by 25 per cent.
Work on the 3.6 million dollar project began last September.
Maskell says the upgrades provide Hanover with leading edge water treatment plant technology.
She notes the new filtration system will improve the quality and taste of Hanover’s water.
Staff are currently receiving training in preparation for the big switch.
The project was made possible through Build Canada Infrastructure Funding — where the cost was split three ways between the federal and provincial governments and the town of Hanover.
