Hanover may have a new advantage to help attract physicians to the community.
The Hanover Hospital Foundation has purchased a five year old raised bungalow and has converted it into three apartments for resident doctors.
The renovations are now complete and a ‘Doctor’s Open House’ is being held Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM.
The home is located at 180 17th Avenue, just south of the Kinsmen ball diamond.
Foundation Chair Mark Rogan says offering affordable housing to resident doctors is a powerful recruitment tool.
He says these young resident doctors will be able to move into a fully furnished home with everything from bed linens to dish towels.
Rogan hopes by the time their two year training is over — these resident doctors will have fallen in love with the area and will start their own practice in the Hanover area.
The Hospital Foundation financed the 265 thousand dollar project, which included many in-kind donations from local businesses
Rogan admits financing a Doctor Home may be considered a bold move by some — but he looks at is as smart investment in local health care.
Rogan encourages everyone to come out to the Open House and celebrate our community health care together.
Hanover has had great success in the past with its physician recruitment efforts through resident doctors.
