Kincardine Council is looking at new development charges for the municipality.
A study done by Hemson Consulting says for single and semi-detached units the first phase of the charge increase could be over 56 hundred dollars per unit.
That is a 39 per cent increase over the current levy.
A development charge is a fee charged to new development to finance the cost of development-related capital costs so the charges do not hit the existing taxpayer.
During a public meeting recently — two developers spoke against the increase in the charges.
The speakers feared that development in the community would drop if development charges go up.
Kincardine councillors will look at the issue in a few weeks time.
Saugeen Shores council has been dealing with the same subject as well and some people suggested Kincardine wait to see what Saugeen Shores does first.
