Walkerton is not getting an off leash dog park. Not anytime soon at least.
A proposal to create a public dog park on private land has been rejected.
Director of Recreation Dan Wilken says the plan posed too many liability and maintenance issues for the municipality.
He says if Brockton does forge ahead with a dog park, it will be on municipally owned land.
Wilken says there is a lot of support in Walkerton for a dog park, and they will include the idea in Brockton’s Recreation Master Plan .
Wilken says it is a matter that requires careful planning and foresight.
Wilken notes there are proponents for both sides of the dog park issue, those who want the park want to give their dogs a chance to run freely while others worry about safety issues and park clean up.
Brockton had budgeted five thousand dollars to put toward a dog park this year, this money will now go back into general reserves for now.
