Three Bruce County residents are being recognized for their bravery in a hazardous circumstance.
James Thede of Port Elgin, and Sharon and Timothy Rider of Kincardine will be presented with the Governor-General Medal of Bravery.
On May 23rd of 2009, a woman was working with flammable items in the back of a sporting goods store in Port Elgin.
A spark set her workstation on fire, and quickly jumped to her upper body.
Thede tried to put out the fire on her body before dealing with the growing fire in the back room.
Just as he called 9-1-1, the Riders ran into the store.
Sharon Rider tried to care for the victim, while Tim Rider was able to extinguish the fire in the store.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance and treated for her burns, surviving the incident.
The awards were announced on Thursday with a medal ceremony to be held at a later date.
