A few scathing e-mails have been sent to South Bruce Peninsula mayor John Close, after pedestrians were charged three dollars to walk the Beachfront at Sauble Beach.
Close first learned about the issue when he checked his email and found one in particular, that blasted the town for charging people at South Sauble Beach.
It turns out, that is First Nations land and South Bruce Peninsula has no control over any charges levied there.
Mayor Close says however, he will have to meet soon with officials at Saugeen First Nations to find out what there plan is.
He is somewhat concerned that charging people to walk along the beach could give all of Sauble Beach a black-eye and impact negatively on tourism.
Chief Randall Kahgee is quoted as confirming that fees were being charged for pedestrians — however, it is not clear how such a fee could be enforced in a wide open area like a beach.
