Lynn McPhatter is Owen Sound’s volunteer of the year.
An emotional McPhatter received a standing ovation as she accepted the honour at a meeting of city council on Monday night.
She was nominated by the Rotary Club of Owen Sound, which she has served for more than 20 years as an active member in many different positions, including president.
For the past seven years she has been the director of Rotary’s Camp Presquile.
McPhatter says it was the club’s focus on youth that attracted her to Rotary when she was looking for a local service club to join.
She says she’s humbled and honoured to receive the honour from the city, and also surprised to have been nominated in the first place.
Along with her Rotary commitments, McPhatter has also been involved with the CNIB, the Relay For Life and Cops for Cancer.
She says she’s learned a lot and has made many friends along the way.
Rotary Club of Owen Sound president Bill Black says it was easy for the club to decide to nominate McPhatter for the city’s volunteer of the year award.
He says McPhatter has put in tireless efforts in everything she does.
