After over half a Century as a joint fire department, Brockton will soon become the sole owner of the Elmwood Fire Department.
West Grey is pulling out of the joint venture and plans to contract services from Brockton come January 1st.
Brockton Mayor David Inglis blames the break up on pressure from the Ontario Fire Marshals Office to do away with joint municipal fire departments.
He says because the Elmwood Fire Department is located in Brockton, it only made sense for it to remain under Brocktons control.
And while Brockton is not happy about the situation, Inglis says it will forge through.
In the meantime he says there is much to be done including the evaluation and appraisal of all of the fire assets for a 50 -50 split.
Brockton will than have to buy West Grey out.
The two municipalities also have to sit down and work out a fire service agreement.
The switch over will take place January 1st, this is when Brockton will take over ownership of the Elmwood Fire Department and contract its fire services out to West Grey.
