The high flying Canadian dollar is getting part of the blame, for the closure of a Call centre in Owen Sound this summer.
Transcom told its’ 132 employees on Thursday that the centre would be closed by mid-September.
Spokesperson Caroline Spivak says the call centre — on the east side of Owen Sound — deals with technical support, customer transactions and processing with many clients operating out of the United States.
She says the high loonie is affecting the business, and the decision to close was not an easy one.
Spivak says employees are not being offered positions elsewhere, as the closest Transcom call centre would be in St. Catherines.
It is the third Canadian call centre that Transcom has announced it will close.
One in New Brunswick and one in Montreal will be closed by early September.
