There’s going to be some changes in the future to the High and Albert Street intersection in Southampton.
Saugeen Shores council has approved an option that will create left-turn lanes only on High Street and on Albert Street or Highway 21.
The plan though results in a loss of four parking spaces on the southwest side of High Street in front of a restaurant and several other businesses.
That doesn’t sit well with Councillor Thead Seaman who says under the current plan all the parking spots are needed.
He says the solution is simple.
He’s calling on what he calls store owners to stop taking up parking spots for the whole day.
He asked council to consider a return to two hour parking in Southampton.
Seaman says if the owners would stay out of the parking spots and leave them for potentially paying customers, the parking problem would be solved.
Meanwhile, Councillor Diane Huber would like to see the two parking spots in front of the Southampton Art School eliminated.
Huber says those spots served a purposed when Southampton had a town hall but now it just creates a problem for pedestrians trying to negotiate around the vehicles there now.
