An official with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs says producers in Huron and Bruce Counties are ahead of the rest of the province.
Cereal Specialist Peter Johnson says we didn’t get quite as much rain as the rest of Ontario, so seeding is mostly completed around the region.
But Johnson says the rain we did get was pretty hard on the winter wheat and it’s also likely that soybeans aren’t all in the ground yet.
He says spring Cereal wheat is the most affected by the weather because it suffers the most from late planting.
Johnson says Huron Bruce is above average for planting compared to the rest of the province.
He says unless we have an abnormally poor summer, then things should be pretty smooth for the rest of the season.
