Kids in the region now have a new way to beat the heat.
The Scenic City Order of Good Cheer will officially open its latest project Saturday at Kelso Beach Park in Owen Sound.
Member Lyle Love says the splash pad is now ready.
The idea of installing a splash pad first came about in 2007, and since then the group has been working very hard to raise the 240 thousand dollars needed to build it.
Love says they received just under 47 thousand dollars through an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, and the City of Owen Sound helped out with 30 thousand dollars.
Love says that portion of money was used to bring water from the west side of the Eddie Sergeant Parkway over to the site.
Love says they travelled to Ottawa, Peterborough, and Paris, Ontario to get ideas for the design.
Member Fred Furness says it’s exciting to see all of the work come together.
He says the grand opening will be held in conjunction with Family Fun Day, which Keystone Child & Youth Services puts on annually.
The official ceremony will take place at 11 AM Saturday with a BBQ lunch afterward.
