The 5th annual Youth Outdoors Expo takes place Saturday at the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association Clubhouse, south of Owen Sound.
It’s a hands-on day full of sports and activities for both boys and girls ages 10 to 17.
It begins at 8:30 AM on Saturday and to pre-register, call 519-371-8468.
Kids can learn skills in archery, target shooting, aquatic critter catching, bird watching and interacting with the MNR’s Canine Conservation Unit.
Grey County Forest Stewardship Network Coordinator Jason Ritchie says professionals are teaching the kids lessons they hope morph into passions later in life.
The list of professionals includes members from the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association; Saugeen and Grey Sauble Conservation Authorities; Saugeen Field Naturalists and the South Grey Hunters and Anglers.
Ritchie says the kids start in groups rotating through each activity every 40 minutes, wrapping up the day with a special performance by the MNR’s Canine Conservation Unit.
This is the first year the Expo is in June and not September.
Ritchie says that’s helped them boost their numbers after a bit of a lull in attendance last year.
