The date is firm.
Bluewater District School Board trustees have until October 18th to make a decision on the Accommodation Review Committee recommendations presented to them this week.
Director of Education John Bryant says the trustees have 60-days but you don’t take into account the summer months of July and August because that’s not considered “working days.”
Also, the time for comment is not over yet.
Bryant says the board is setting up on their website a formal process where people can ask questions of the staff regarding the recommendations that have been made by both ARC groups.
Bryant says questions or comments will be welcome and will be passed on to trustees as well as they work on making their decision by October 18th.
The Kincardine/Port Elgin group’s main recommendation is that Elgin Market School in Kincardine become a French immersion facility while Kincardine Township Tiverton Public School will be a JK to Grade 3 English facility and Huron Heights will be Grades 4 to 8.
The two high schools in Kincardine and Saugeen Shores would remain as is.
There is also an alternate recommendation that would see Elgin Market close down.
The Chesley/Hanover main recommendation would see Dawnview Public School, Kinghurst Community and John Diefenbaker Secondary close their doors.
Chesley District would become a JK to Grade 12 facility while Hanover Heights would remain JK to Grade 8.
In addition a new JK to Grade 12 District School would be built, likely in Hanover.
An alternate recommendation includes building a new Grade 9 to 12 District School to house both Chesley and John Diefenbaker students at a site yet to be named.
