The latest donation to the Regional Recreation Centre comes as the fundraising committee approach’s their community target.
That target is to raise five million dollars locally to help pay for the 36.8 million dollar project.
McArthur Tire has donated 30 thousand dollars for a steam room in the memory of J.D and Ruth McArthur.
J.D McArthur was instrumental in the building of the Bayshore Community Centre.
Their daughter Mary McArthur says her dad originally wanted to see a Rec centre of the same size and use built on that property.
But those dreams never came true at that time because funding for the project was not approved by City Hall.
They now join close to 500 other donors who have supported the campaign.
Construction began a year ago on the 125 thousand square foot recreation centre which is a partnership of the city of Owen Sound, the Family Y and federal, provincial and municipal governments.
The building is over 50 per cent complete and will house two, NHL-sized arenas, a health and fitness centre, a walking/running track and two pools, one competition-sized and the other for leisure and therapy.
